A Day of Giving

In Joshua chapter 10, as the Israelites battle their enemy the Amorites, Joshua prays for the sun to cease working. He is prevailing upon the Lord for a longer day. God in His great mercy answered that request and allowed Joshua and the people of Israel a longer day.

God as the creator has authority over the sun, moon, and stars. He is the one who speaks all things into existence and He who sustains all things. God has surely sustained Immanuel for over 100 years. He has continued to provide for all our needs through His children, and through His miracles. We rejoice at God’s faithfulness to us.

This year God has given us an extra day, February 29. The leadership of Immanuel has decided that we, His children, should do something special with this extra day. Immanuel Lutheran Church has declared February 29, 2020, as A Day of Giving. In an effort to reduce our debt, increase our visibility, and do ministry at Immanuel we are asking members of Immanuel to give. That giving may be financial, it may be serving in the community, or it may be serving at church or in the academy.

We are hoping to raise or receive pledges for $15,000 (funds can be given that day or pledged that day – the $15,000 represents $50 per attendant on Sunday morning). Our goal is also 600 service hours performed on the 29th or pledged on the 29th. That equates to 2 service hours per regular attendee.

If you need service hours, we suggest you call the academy and see what service they need. We also recommend Broken Arrow Neighbors, Arms Around Broken Arrow, and the church. There is always a need in the community for volunteer hours. Find a place to be light in the darkness. Let the light of Immanuel (God with us, and the church) dispel the darkness of our community.

Rejoice and use this extra day to be a blessing to many through A Day of Giving.
